Welcome to Plosives, the launch compilation for Ghost Nun Music. Ghost Nun is a popnoise label – abrasive music with a sugary edge. It’s an attempt to define an aesthetic, one where noise and texture play as important a role as melody and hooks and rhythm.

Ghost Nun aims to be a home for weird, genre-defying music that straddles the blurry divide between conventional tuneage and extreme experimentalism.

This compilation includes distorted anthemic pop, thunderous speaker-quaking drone, scratchy field-noise funk, semi-industrial mutant dance, glorious feedback-drenched electrostatic hymns, and all points in between.

Why Plosives? A plosive is a consonant sound made by stopping and then releasing air suddenly; plosives tend to cause unwanted popping and distortion in vocal recordings, and are a reason for the use of pop filters on microphones. At Ghost Nun, we want to celebrate and centre those unwanted or harsh noises, wrestling them into vaguely pop shapes for the discerning weird music lover. So: Plosives it is.
